    Napa reman Axle shafts

I need to replace my rear wheels bearings on my 87 325e instead of just doing axle boots I was thinking of getting reman axles as I realize they are more of a replacement part but on the downside I have seen lots of horror stories on here. How are the napa quality ones? I can get them locally at Napa for 75 a piece.

to be honest, I've generally got really good quality BMW parts from Napa (batteries, calipers, MCs, etc). Haven't bought any axles, though.

Well i have had the Napa axle, its cheap. The inner c/v was not assembled properly, and more "sloppy" than the original. Save your money for the good stuff.

Every non-BMW reman axel I've seen has had one or more flaws. The most common being the outboard boot rubbing on the drive shaft. The OE boots won't do that but I've never found an aftermarket boot with the correct shape.

If the CV joints aren't worn, replaced the boots with OE parts and re-packing the bearings is all that is needed. I'd rather get used half shafts with good CV joints from a salvage yard and replace the boots than get the Pacific Rim remans.

Okay what boots are best to run? I can not see dropping 400-500 on good remans on a car that I might get $2000 if I am lucky.

Many NAPA (and Advance, AutoZone, O'Rielly, etc) parts are fine, but there are some things (generally from off shore rebuilders) that should be avoided. Half shafts, drive shafts, alternators, and starters are examples. For those you really should use OE or OE factory remans.

The OE boot kits will cost about $100 per axel. And once you know what you are doing you can replace the boots and repack the CV joints in about an hour per axel.
