2 different shifter selector rods?

My selector rod broke, and i ordered one from the stealer, told them i had an 87. I dont have a flex disc on the driveshaft. The one I took off has no indent for the flex disc, the one I got from the dealer does. So aparently there are two rods, and one is longer than the other? Is this correct?

When i installed the lever my shifter was much more forward than before. Basically neutral is where first used to be. I am correct in bending the rod and shifter to help correct.

Im thinking the bent selector rod is for a cabrio or 4dr 5spd tranny and the straight one is for coupes im not sure but i need a selector rod also but how would i go about replacing it?

provided you dont have any clearance issues (you shouldnt, as you dont have a vibration damper) i dont think bending would be a problem... but as a note i've never heard of there being two different selector rods, esp since the vibration damper wasn't on all/most cars.

(unfortunately i have a damper, and i forgot to bend my selector rod when i installed my e36m3 lever, so now it lightly contacts the damper in 2nd gear when i hold it back... i really need to get under there and bend it)

Well, im convinced there are 2 different kinds, because the one I took off my car looks nothing like what I put back in. My friends 89 has a vibration damper and his rod looks just like the one I put on my car. I bent the rod and the lever and now the shifter sits about where it used to, so it hasnt been that big of a deal. I have to check ETK when I go home next for the part #.

I also installed a nice thick solid washer while I was down there, tightened up the linkage a lot.

should the eta's be different from the i's rod? to my knowledge they are the same linkages but i'm not that familiar with the etas

Its got to be for cars with and without those dampers. I just dont know why one is longer than the other. Both the rods are straight, but the one just has that indent for the damper.
