Dogleg Tranny- where to find one?

Well, I'm really interested in getting a dogleg transmission for reasons unexplainable.

I know some on here have one, and wondering where they found theres. Was it an option only for the m3 race cars? Or does a company make them specificaly for the e30s?

Price range on one? 2-3k? or maybe less? maybe more?

1500-2500 dollars at least, for a non motorsport dogleg. keep in mind that rebuild parts are NLA for these things, so if it goes, you get to buy another one... what diff are you going to mate it to? Also, this was not a track specific part, it was OE on m3's in certain parts of the world.

With my m20, i would probably either keep the 3.73 LSD or go to a 3.2x Not sure on the final drive of the dogleg vs the FD on the standard 5speed, so maybe some more information in that department would be a bit helpful lol.

What's so good about that transmission to justify $2000+?

You could turbocharge the car with that

NLA? since when? 262/265 parts can still be purchased. The most common fail items are usually bearings or syncro's, they are definately not hard to source. If you want to pay the top dollars, metric mechanic will source/rebuild them for you.
Just a little project im working on

Dogleg trannys have completly different internals.

It's also set up where First gear is down in the Second gear position, allowing for faster 2nd-3rd gear shifts(most racing situations).

They also dont use syncros. They essentially just slam into place, rather than a gradual transition. They have like 5 squares on the side of the gears that lock into eachother like a puzzle to lock in the gears. Thats why when you watch videos of racecars equipped with a dogleg they shift much louder than normal cars. I think they also use straightcut gears rather than helical cut gears.

Pretty sure...took one apart today. It wasnt neccissarily a BMW Transmission, but I'm sure that if it was a real dogleg, there wouldn't be any syncros.
