    Transmission question - G240

I just purchased a 24v swapped '91 318i and will be selling my turbo 24v '85 325 coupe. I will be swapping the turbo parts over to the '91, but I'm not sure what transmission I should use. I have the choice of using a Getrag 240 which is currently in the car, a Getrag 250 - one of which is in the '85 and another I have as a spare, or a Getrag 260 which came in the '85 to begin with. I would prefer to stick with the 240 for now IF it will hold the power... should be about 300hp/300 lb-ft torque and I'm not beating on the car. The 260 is the early model that is only compatible with the sheet metal shift console so I'd prefer to avoid that.

So, will the Getrag 240 hold up?

The G240 will blow up. It is only a (short) matter of time with that amount of power. I think that you may want to look into some later model transmissions. Ask around in the 24V section here.

You can buy a bracket to make the late shift console fit on an early trans. Not sure what trans it came on but I have seen the bracket in person.
