M20 flywheel Weight question

    M20 flywheel Weight question

    I just bought a flywheel from another member off this forum. He said it was a "I" M20 flywheel. It weighs 25lbs and looks kinda thick. Is this normal weight for this kind of flywheel. Or was he mistaken and its actually a dual mass flywheel? Can anyone help?

    That's normal. The dual mass fly is more than that.

          I thought 16 as well for the m20b25 flywheel. I thought m42's were 25 pounds.

            No. My flywheel was either 22 or 24lbs on an inaccurate scale (I don't remember exactly). My machinist got it down to 15lbs after lightening.

                    Really... damn. The guy said that he bought it off another guy on this forum and that it came off of a 323i.... I'm not too familiar with the flywheels for the M20 and M42's.... how different are they? The guy I bought it from guaranteed me it was an M20 flywheel though.... but looking at some of the responses I'm thinking he might be right.

                      I just weighed some Ive got laying around.

                      Single mass from M20 B25 = 18lb 10.5 oz

                      Dual mass from M20 B27= 23lb 9.5 oz

                      Yes my scale is very accurate use it to ship my ebay auctions.


                      BTW Ive still got that M20 B25 fly for sale.
