    Manual trans issues

PLEASE EXCUSE THE NOOB QUESTIONS ITS MY FIRST MANUAL E30

    Issue 1.

My clutch pedal falls over night and i have to pump it.

Can I just rebuild the slave? or am I better off to just buy new?
Is there any way to check fluid?

Issue 2. Gearbox feels stiff when cold, also feels notchy, I was told to try out some Redline fluid, but which one? what weight?

Issue 3. The trans sounded a bit whiny but there was no shifter boots rubber or otherwise, now that they are on it sounds better, Should I worry about a slight whine?

Issue 3. My shifter is looser than a dancing girl, am I better to just freshen it up or just do a short shift kit? I believe I have to pull the skid plate to do either?

    Car is a 87 325i 4 door manual. build date of 12/86

Replace all the clutch hydraulics, master, slave, and rubber line.

Check for a tag on the side of the bell housing, generally Redline mt90 or amsoil fluid (i run amsoil) is good.

change the fluid and see how it sounds, could be the diff making noise

I think the guys at myster-e are selling a ssk with bushings, though i dont think it comes with all the bushings. Go with derlin bushings for the rear carrier mount and for the one that mounts on the top of the transmission (forgot what its called) but garagistic sells those.

If there aren't any leaks at the slave or soft line the master cylinder is bad. But if either is bad it is best to replace both and the soft line as FLG said (the other is likely to soon fail).

As best I can determine from the internal part numbers what little differences there are in the transmission internals do not correlate at all with the different tansmission "tags". My theory is that the tag was there to tell a tech what fluid the transmission was filled with if it needed topping up. If draining the fluid, refill with Redline MTL or ATF.

While you can spend the money on a short shift kit, rebuilding the shifter is all that is really necessary. And that needs to be done regardless.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
