    Ring and pinion question

I was wondering if the ring and pinion out of a 528 (3.25 open) would bolt up in my 2.93 LSD. I'm looking to have a 3.25 LSD.

    Thanks

Or the more senible thing to do would be to put the LSD centre from your 2.93 into the 3.25, that way you don't need to set the pinion depth possibly only the side bearing preload which is easy.
Provided they are both medium case typ188 diff's that is.

Where will "typ188" be marked on the case?

Both of them are the "eta" cases, one from a 528e and the other from a 325es.

      Thanks

        it's not marked.
If it looks the same as your eta one (except the rear cover) then they are most likely the same. a Typ168 is small (has 6 bolts for the rear cover) a Typ210 is huge and has the drain on the side not the back.

Sounds like the one thats on the 528e is the TYP188.

The junk-yard that I go to sells all "rear ends" for $35, but they only sometimes have BMW's. I guess I'll go pick it up with in a couple days.

          Thanks for the help.

here are some updated pics. It ended up being a 3.46 which is better than a 3.25 that I originaly though it was. I took both of them apart (very easy), and now I'm just waiting to use airtools tomorow to get the ring gears switched.

What is the correct way to set the side bearing preload?

              Thanks
