This appears to be a common problem across all the e30s I've ever seen. See the picture below:

I bought a new selector rod joint, washers, and circlips for this joint, but I could physically see how much space there is between the rod and ID of the hole. I wrapped it up with tape and put it in for now, however I realize this is an ephemeral solution. It bothers me because everything else is perfectly tight after this rebuild.
I realize the obvious and common solution is to buy a DSSR, but they're just so expensive. I know, I know, I'm being cheap and this is the reason why us e30 people can't have nice things made by nice people.
But seriously, the dssr is just wayy too overbuilt. I'd be okay with overbuilt, but it is not necessary, and at the price, it's not worth it.
So how do I make either the hole in the joint smaller, or the pin off the rod bigger? How has it been done?
EDIT: just realized, I should've just used heat shrink. Although that'll be plenty soft at operating temps. Would heat shrink be any good?
