Which Parts work for 5 speed swap?

    Hey guys, quick question.

I'm down to finding the last parts for doing a 5 speed swap in my 89 325iS. The last remaining parts are pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder, and slave cylinder. My question is, what are my restrictions as far as donor cars on these parts?

Do all 325 pedal assemblies, clutch master cylinders, and slave cylinders work in other 325s regardless of year or model ('i' or 'e')?

Can I possbily get these parts out of a same year iX?

    Thanks in advance!

You don't need the whole pedal assembly, just the clutch pedal. One from an ix will work. Get a new clutch master, slave, and soft line. A used hard line should be okay.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I was under the impression you take out the auto pedal assembly ( so just the brake pedal) and replace it with the manual assembly (so clutch and brake pedal combo). Is this not correct?

I don't know about the pedals but you don't need a clutch master cylinder. The clutch and brakes use the same reservoir. If you notice on the brake master cylinder for your auto you will see a nipple coming off of it, just cut it and put the hose on it with a clamp.

I would think any manual E30 would be a good candidate for 5speed parts.

on airbag cars, the pedal boxes are the same. you just have to swap the pedals themselves.

don't know about the non-airbag versions, but they have an easily unbolted pedal box. the main difference is airbag/non airbag, they aren't compatible.

K this just confused the hell out of me. How would you not need a clutch master cylinder?

You definitely need a clutch master/slave.

Wut? Yes you need a clutch master cylinder, I think you are confusing the reservior and the master cylinder, they are not the same thing.

On a non airbag E30 you will need to swap the complete pedal assembly. The auto pedal box doesn't have provisions to mount the clutch master cylinder. You can use ANY pedal assembly from any 84 through 89 5 speed E30. Do yourself a favor and buy the clutch master/slave units new. Don't cheap out on these either!

I think that depends on when the car was built. I was able to just add the pedal to the 87 that I did a few years back.
