no clutch shifts?

I had to drive my brother's 63 ranchero for 3 days with no clutch at all. I would start off in first gear with the motor stopped. Start the motor and take off. Shift clutchless and then when I absolutely HAD to come to a stop I would stall it out.

I tink it would be hard on your syncros unless you matched perfectly

Truckers only use the clutch for takeoff from a dead stop.

heh, not true. maybe on some super old trucks with non syncromesh 5-8 speed trannies. but not the newer ones with 8-16 plus splitter.

Gently shifting without the clutch is ok. You just have to get good at pulling it out of gear right when you let off the gas and slipping it into the next gear as the rpms fall to the right spot. If it gives you any resistance at all then you didn't do it right and you shouldnt force it.

I don't see what the big deal with taking a car out of gear without clutch. You're simply separating gears, so it doesn't matter what speed the gears are spinning, there's nothing to match 'to' when you're going out of gear. Air is really forgiving, and doesn't need synchros LOL.
