Pretty much everything is compatible as near as I can tell, except the output yoke has the 4 bolt setup instead of the 3 bolt setup that the e30 4HP22 has. Is this hard to change?

It's been over 20 years for me but I sold my auto trans to someone with an E28. IIRC, it was a 4 bolt output flange (no guibo) on my 85 325e. Same with my 87 325eS. I'd imagine changing the flange is similar to the Getrag where you just have to remove the large nut."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

Yes, but the shaft coming out of the e30 tranny has a centering stub for the guibo... which the e28 tranny does not have. Do I need that?Richard
