    Transplant '86 325e 5 speed into auto '87 325is

Just picked up an '87 325IS.
Only catch is that it's auto, and I REALLY hate driving automatics.

Will the 5 speed trans and associated parts from my '86 325e (parts car) bolt up?

Did the IS and E use the same trans? Flywheel? Clutch? Driveshaft?
(Edit: I found out that the "e" and "is" have different driveshafts, but can be made to work.)

Just to be clear, I'm planning to re-use ALL of the parts from my parts car, without buying any new parts.(Unless I literally find something broken or about to break.)

Is this possible? Are there any one time use parts that HAVE to be replaced? (stretch bolts or something?)

Trying to do this swap as cheap as possible, as I already have an M52b28 w/ZF320 that I want to put in. I just need all of the supporting parts, and a new clutch+flywheel. (and the money to buy all of these parts!)

        Bump.

Can anyone answer my original post?

Going to start pulling manual trans parts off my '86 parts car this week.

Both are an m20 variation, and should have the same bell housing pattern, so the transmissions should interchange..

Hey OP, I'm about to do this same exact swap (86 325e 5sp into 87 325is auto) and wanted to check in. Did everything go as planned? Anyone have any input?

            TIA
