    smell trans fluid...

i noticed my shifter was beginning to get really lose so i looked under the car. i took out that rubber that is bettween a plate that holds the shifter and a plate above the trans. relaced it with a bushing and a screw and has held up pretty good but still the shifter is pretty loose.

anyway i was driving and a bolt just fell off my car. so i went back for it and that night i checked where it came from. i think it holds the plate that is attached to the shifter...its a kinda big screw that needs an allen wrench to tighten it. every since then i can smell trans fluid and see after ive been parked for awhile see fluid leaking on the ground. i havent put the screw back but wen i checked it doesnt seem like any fluid is comming out from there.

anybody think they could help me or know where its leaking from. also anybody have the part number to that rubber between the two plates above the trans. thanks!

pics would help here. didnt know tranny fluid had that specific of a smell. What color is it? Could be brake fluid from a leaky clutch slave. either way you should be able to jack the car up and get underneath and follow the drips.

ill try and get pics but i it might not be clear cause i only have a camera phone. i cant really get a specific color since it drips on black pavement and looks like anything else but i know its comming somewhere on top of the tranny near the shifter. i recognized the smell from wen me and my friend changed his trans and poured in some new gear oil, smelt exactly like it.

well since you mentioned brake fluid, i have noticed ive lost brake fluid. cause its going down in the resvoir. where is the clutch slave?

      heres a diagram....

the screw that fell off is number 2 i think...almost positive

i also looked else where and found that another person had the same problem with his shifter moving up and down (very loose) and people where telling him he should replace his trans mounts and fluid....any suggestions?

clutch slave is visible under the car on the drivers side of the transmission towards the top. If it's blown it will leak, and you'll lose brake fluid. Just replaced mine and the hose that goes to it, see: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=66009
