    Flywheel differences?

Have a 325e and would like to put a single mass i flywheel on. Is the reference pin the only difference?

The flywheel will swap just fine, but since it is thinner, you will need to make up the difference in the bellhousing. You can either swap in an i transmission, or simply swap in a euro 323i throw out bearing.

If you search, you will find lots of contradicting info... some people say you can use the stock i throw out bearing that comes in an i clutch kit, while others (and myself) chose to use the 323i throw out bearing. I made a thread collecting actual measurements and pictures to get to the bottom of the issue here.

TLDR: if you use an i flywheel and clutch assembly with an e transmission for a dual mass flywheel, you need a euro 323i throw out bearing to make up the difference in stack height.

Crap. I wasn't expecting there to be differences like that. Thanks for the info, looks like I'll just go with the stock flywheel.

Honestly there's no point in doing this to an Eta. If anything, go for the Eta single mass flywheel if you currently have the dual mass.

Do you mean the aftermarket conversion? Bit pricey.

There exists both a dual mass and single mass ETA flywheel. If you don't want to use the dual mass source a single mass part made for the ETA engine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Agreed the easiest thing is to get a single mass from an eta with the reference pin on it already if your car needs it. But I will say that when I converted an 88 seta with a dual mass over to a 325ix single mass flywheel and clutch setup I had ordered a 533i TOB because of the bellhousing depth differences when it arrived it was exactly the same height as the I car TOB I already had but it worked fine, with no clutch travel issues.

You must have ordered or received the wrong part because the 323i bearing is most definitely taller.

Or use a 325i flywheel if you have a later model ETA (mine was 04/1987) that has an identical bellhouse to the m20b25 transmission. My ETA g260 had the vin sticker matching chassis and a dual mass ETA clutch originally.

A m20b25 clutch went into the unit and a m20b25 throw out bearing was used.
