    will any E36 M3 trans fit an E30 ?

    will any E36 M3 fit a 325is 88 ?

within a year i plan to do a S52 swap but for the moment i want to swap the auto trans to something that can handle the S52 and fit in the E30.

any other transmission would work ? would a 325i trans work with a S52 ?

No. You going to need to do a manual swap with all e30 parts getrag 260 clutch pedal and the works. Then when you get a s52 your gonna need to get a ZF tranny and the rest of the stuff to do a s52 swap

So in other words, just do the S52 swap now.

This would be the cheapest cause then you wont be buying two tranny's and two clutches, two drive shafts, two slave cylinders....

The getreg G260 that would have came in your car works for both your m20 and s52, and is gonna be the cheap easy solution.

He has a auto now so he would need to buy a getrag 260 and all the stuff to do a manual swap and then would have to buy another tranny when he swaps

It will. Choose your new diff carefully though. Ratios are different with the E36 M3 trans

The g260 is what his car would have had stock if it were manual. He needs to buy and tranny anyway. And he does not need a different trans when he swaps motors again only a different trans mount crossmember... Like I said it's the cheap easy solution, believe it or not.

I see I have yet to do a 24v swap. I personally would put the zf in either way after I swap the s52 in just cause It's the tranny made for that motor, that's just me though.

But its not necessary. Plenty of people use the g260 behind their 24v swaps, yet you are telling this guy he needs to buy a different trans when he goes to do his swap.

Personal preference is one thing, spreading bad information is another.

I had always heard that e36 trans will sit cockeyed on m20's. Looks like I misread some things..... I'm out....

It will. Just like E30 trans will be crooked with an M5x motor. Still works, just not as perfect.

ZF with an S5x is preferable to any other combination.
