M20 + ZF is much better than
S52 + G260.
both require unnatural adaptation to the angle of mounting and shift linkage; neither are honestly ideal.
If one desires to keep the M20 engine a E46 320D 6 speed (2005/6 europe only) will bolt on direct and keep the proper M20 engine angle.
6mt will require adaptation of the shift linkage (or an AKG race) and trans mount but its not terrible at all; completely bolt on.
There is a UUC /ALG DSSR that will just pop in with this setup (m20+ zf disel 6mt + e30)
a E46 320D 5 speed from 2002-4 sill also bolt right on with the proper M20 engine angle and also allow for use of more common drive shaft/ shift linkage components.
