    Diff Question

What kind of power will the rear diff in my 88 IX handle? I'm planning on a couple engine mods that will test the breaking point. I'm planning a engine swap, nothing any sane person would do, but stupid power is fun.

I'm planning on approx 650-700 hp and 700lb torque, no blower or bottle. The AWD portion of the car will be removed.

If I take it easy on it, I'm sure it will be fine, not that I'm planning on launching off the trans brake at 6500 either.

    BTW, it's not a LS1 swap. :firehop:

What kind of swap are you planning on doing for 650hp?? that's crazy. lol
if the diff can't handle, it, then the half shafts can't either. you might need beefier half-shafts too...

Over 8 litres of big block chevy. It's a detuned alcohol drag engine.

you might want to use a 7-series diff. IIRC the rear cover will need to be modified.

*edit* has anyone told you that you're fucking insane?

Actually, yes. Ain't it cool? Dare to be different.

I don't think the diff will be the biggest problem, rear halfshafts and tweaked subframes/trailing arms will. you might want to look into M-coupe style rear trailing arm reinforcements and beef up everything you can - I'm guessing this won't be a street car, so you might consider solid subframe mounts and derlin trailing arm bushings to keep things from shifting around.

              Thanks for the tips!

It'll actually see the street 90% of the time, just a insane driver. I get bored, I build things....
