    Which trans fits 88 325e?

I'm swapping a 5 speed into my 1988 325e, and I recently learned not all manual transmissions were made the same. The getrag 240 and 260 are somewhat different, and not every transmission will mount up to my engine, if I am correct. I'm wondering which ones will work, I haven't been able to find a solid answer so far.

Also, I may be able to get a donor trans from a 1991 318i sedan. Would this transmission work? Will the driveshaft work? Are all driveshafts made the same, IE, will a sedan driveshaft fit on my coupe? Sorry for not having any knowledge on this subject, I'm still a student. Thanks

I believe any g260 will work. G240 won't. Get the driveshaft from any e30 325i or e, just make sure the transmission output flange matches the driveshaft (no biggie, there are only 2 sizes).

Not to be the typical r3v dickhead, but you can get a lot of info by searching a little harder.

    Good luck.

Edit: I should have specified. Early g240 (from an m10) won't fit. Late will, but the clocking will be off by 10 degrees.

G240 fits the engine, not sure about drive shaft length etc.

Shift carrier plates/arms are slightly different depending on model year of the G260, but it's obvious from the mounting tabs on the trans which ones you need, either can be made to work.

The earlier e's need sensors in the bellhousing, so you
pretty much have to use an e trans for them. Is the later version different?

88 is the last year for the eta. Basically the same wiring and sensors as the i, so either bellhousing will work on the 88.
