Just wanted to add my $.02 to the discussion. I swapped a 4.10 lsd in my 325is recently. It's the single best performance upgrade I've made. Much better acceleration. I would recommend it to anyone. Only downside is more frequent shifting and higher RPM at highway speeds.

e34 520i m20 had 4,45:1 diff. I think thats the numerally greatest(should I say tallest or shortest?) gearing for type 188(=same as e30 "big") differential.
