How do I remove this shifter support mount on my early model 325is?

I'm trying to tighten up my shifter and this piece is causing a lot of slop. I have a new one, but I can't get a wrench into where the bolt is, and the guide I'm using for the shifter rebuild uses a different piece for this entirely, I think it changed on late models. Do I have to remove the driveshaft? And if I do is there a way to convert to an easier to remove version of this so I don't have to do this again?

Drop the driveshaft to gain access.

I have early model. I use a long extension with 13mm socket. I enter by the center support bearing. It's tight up there but it will come out. I'm glad you posted that pic cause I could no figure out if my support carrier was the right one in my car when I first got it.

You can do that without removing the driveshaft. The shift linkage knuckle that connects to the driveshaft is what you need to remove the drive shaft for if you are wanting to replace that.

Remember if you do decide to drop the drive shafts, Mark the position so they are balanced when you reinstall.
