    Oil holes on LSD units?

Noticed there seems to be two different types of drum? one with long slots in the side, and the usual one we see with just the round holes? Looks simply to improve oil flow around the centre, but is there a specific model they are usually found on? When looking to buy one, seems like they aren't quite as common as the ones with round holes.

E36 and late E32/34 would be the most common place. The round hole is the older style.

Not sure about E32/E34, but E36 is no good because they use M14 bolts for the ring gear instead of M12. End up having to have sleeves made to use it with an E24/E28/E30 crown wheel.

Good point - Glad you brought that up. Yes, some units especially M LSD units will have 14MM bolts. Majority E32/4/6 units will have 12MM blots though, like their earlier counterparts.

          Why?

The earlier units do have advantages in the capsule; I actuality prefer them over later if available.
