G 260 question

i tow a small boat with my little eta with no problems. yesterday i pulled the boat out of the water buttened her up and when pulling off the lot, i felt a bang in the trans while in 1st gear. felt it through the shifter too. after that she wouldn't go into or out of gear. then after some coaxing, i got her to shift but with some grinding through the first 3. 4th and 5th seamed ok. now hears where it gets interesting. by the time i got home 75 miles later, she was back to shifting fine again. what could this problem be caused by?

no, seriously, a self- healing manual transmission just doesn't happen. It really sounds
like something's broken in there, and it's just waiting for an excuse to pop out of place again.
