    Amsoil MTF or Redline MTL?

    Hi all,

I have a new twist on a topic that's been beaten to death.

I'm having my mechanic change my trans fluid and was going to go with Redline MTL, but he recommended Amsoil MTF. Google-fu shows that people rave about this trans fluid, but I want to make sure that it's OK for the E30 and also see if anyone has experience with this fluid.

Car is an 89 325iS with a 5 speed. I don't know if I have a Green, Red or No Label car.

Nothing wrong with Redline. Personally, I have the green label and I use the MT-90. Been running it for over 2 years, no issues, good shifting, no leaks.

    Manual Transmission fluids (Redline)
    Green Label: MT-90 (75W90 GL-4)
    Red Label: D4 ATF
    No Label: MTL (70W80 GL-4)

Well, I ended up going with the Redline since I had already bought it, it has been used in these cars for years and I couldn't find any data on the Amsoil fluid as it pertains to the E30 online.

I know at least one diehard BMW nut who swears by AMSoil- I'd use it if it was easy to
get and less expensive than Redline.

I use Redline in my 260 Getrag. I use Amsoil in my diff's (both LSD). 80w90 then they switched it to 75w90. works great. You don't have to ad the the LSD additive to GL5 fluids, but I do.

i have redline in my trans and diff. i like it. amsoil and redline are both pretty much equal as far as performance and pricing as far as i know. can't go wrong either way
