    Transmission Tag?

Hey guy Im having a hard time locating the tans tag on my e30. Im trying to figure out what oil to put in it and I really dont want to guess. I just put gear oil in and it doesn't seem right. Anyone know where the tag is supposed to be located? I heard passenger side bell housing. Just looked but didn't see anything although everything is covered in oil.

    Thanks

Sticker near the fill bolt, IF it has one. The later ones seem to, the earlier ones may- or may not.
I put MTL in them and don't think about it.

I dunno if th3y fell off, or were never there. I could never have afforded an E30 back in 1989...

On the E36, tho, it got really pissed at me when I put MTL into it, and going to D4 ATF really did make it happier.

Should be a sticker, sometimes orange, on the side of the trans. Not sure which side, but it is hard to miss. Roughly 1"x3".

Per what Toby said, I've read that the changes in recommended fluids had more to do with suppliers/coordinators than changes in gearbox internals. I have a box that's supposed to use MT-90 which I ran for two years. Just put MTL in it a week or two ago and things are at least the same.

Thanks. I looked over and couldn't see anything. I put MTF is but the shifts were really heavy. Just swapped it for ATF and now it feels better. It says in the Bentley manual for the e30 that it doesn't matter if you use MTL or ATF, it will not changed the wear characteristics.
