Z3 3.07 Torsen into E24: trigger wheel and speed sensor compatibility

My dad bought a Z3 3.07 Torsen to swap into his E24 to replace the original 3.46 open. Other than being open, there's nothing wrong with the original unit, but he wants a limited slip and more relaxed highway cruise (as well as better mileage).

This swap requires installing the E24 rear cover onto the Z3 diff. In anticipation of that, he ordered a spare speed sensor trigger wheel so that we could swap that over now and only swap the diff cover when he's ready to do the install.

We pulled the 3.07 apart today to install the wheel and found that the E24 wheel is ~1" bigger on the outside diameter than the Z3 wheel (expected), but also has a larger ID where it fits on the diff (not expected).

Is there a trigger wheel which has the larger OD, but the smaller ID?

I'm not sure how different this is from me installing a z3 Torsten in my ETA but I used the e30 cover and the z3 speed sensor and trigger wheel with no issues. The connector was different but I was able to buy pigtails and the housing from BMW and after splicing them in everything works as it should

The E24 uses a different rear cover than the E30, while the Z3 uses essentially the same cover as the E30.
