    Vibration dampener ring twists off?

This vibration dampener ring thing is supposed to twist 60 degrees to come off, ya? Do I have to take off that nut in the middle?

    *Damper

You have to pull out the washer around that nut, remove that nut, remove the output flange, remove the damper from the output flange then reinstall.

cool, thanks. Any idea what size that nut is? I'm going to have to buy a new deep socket.

on the e30's it's 30mm , can't tell if that's an m20 or e36 tranny. You may have to grind down the outside of the socket to fit down into the flange.

Thinwall 30MM on E30s, I got one at Ace. Good luck getting it off though, and don't rest the torque wrench on the tranny tabs, or anything - trust me.

            Thanks guys. One more question...

How did you hold the shaft still when you loosen/tighten the nut? It almost seems impossible unless it's installed to the engine.

Is this that "15 min job" that's supposed to cure my non-bended selector rod grinding issues from the z4 3.0 SSK?

guess so, although my vibration damper was ON the driveshaft, not the end of the driveshaft.

                    Later cars are like that.

You have to pull the flange off and bang those studs out of the flange so the dampener can be removed. In the bently it says rotate 60* but it doesnt tell you that that's after you knock the bolts out.

Does one really NEED that dampener? What exactly does it do and how effective is it? (don't say it dampens vibration...)

I didn't feel the slightest difference without it.

make sure you use the correct sealant on that output flange (curil K2) and that you torque that nut down correctly when you put it back together. if you don't, you get leaks!
