    upgraded shifter carrier bushings

I'm looking for something other than the OE rubber bushings, but I can't seem to find anything. derlin, solid, whatever. I have all new bushings and mounts and it's just too sloppy for my tastes. or are you guys just making your own?

you mean the mount right behind the shifter? I haven't seen anything for that, would be nice though.

I would think that back one would have to remain rubber.

Why? Well, the tranny and engine move quite a bit when driven hard. Making that rear mount solid will only cause a lot of undue stress on the shift carrier - since it'll be attached to the tranny AND attached to the body of the car.

If you make the front shift carrier moutns stiff - the rear won't help much more.

I got mine from UUC Motorwerks, Chris. I also jamed a couple washers in there to tighten it up even more.

They're hard to find - but get to UUC's listing page, and just start goin thru the pages. Can't miss em. They are delrin bushings.

good point about the tranny movement. I need to replace my tranny mount too, I couldn't find my new one when I was putting everything together so I just left the old 218k one in - talk about sloppy!

thanks for the link, I'll probably pick up the UUC derlin bushings.

Good point Sean. I have been having the same problem because I DID bolt mine to the frame pretty much.. and downshifting or quickshifting into second gear after a quick acceleration spurt, it was difficult to get it into second gear..

On the highway the shifting is fine, but even with poly tranny/engine mounts, it STILL moves.
                Good point

Either way - your shift linkage is connected to the transmission somehow.

At a certain point, you eliminate that advantages of having a very stiff shifter.

Doing that would make it stiff - but would EASILY cause misshifts. Think aboiut if. If the shift carrier was mounted to the body rather than the tranny - the selector shaft (part on bottom of shifter than selects the gears in the tranny) will be moving - so if you try to shift in a turn, maybe you'll go into first instead of third? Which...would be bad in most cases.

Pretty straight forward. Doing what I did has made it VERY stiff and VERY precise. Even with the somewhat sloppy Z4 3.0i shifter (the lever has a lot of play in it) it is still very precise. I bent my selector shaft a bit too - since if you think about it, you have more leverage on the selector piece on the selector shaft if the shift lever goes in level with teh shaft - before it was at like a 35o angle - now it's almost horizontal with it.

I'd like to know the dimensions of that delrin bushing. $25 is so overpriced for those things unless they're making them custom.

yeah, but I just want to buy something and put it in. I don't have time or resources to make my own.
