    30mm Thinwall socket...

I'm in the last stages of rebuilding the engine and I figured I'd replace all the tranny seals as well before I throw them both in as a unit. My book says that I need a 30mm thinwall socket.

Hmm. Looked all over, can't find one.
Anyone have someplace I could order one from?
    Thanks!

you can buy a standard 30mm socket and grind it down to size with a bench grinder.

Heh, allow me to clarify...I can't find ANY 30mm sockets. I have a shallow one, and I can FIND a shallow one, but that's it.

You should be able to find a deep 30mm all over town .
Hell even Sears or your neighborhood chain auto parts store will carry them .

Just get a $10 cheapie and grind down the last 3/4" or so and it will work like a champ .

No, you don't understand...I live in the middle of NOWHERE, and even the sears stores are bumblefuck-hillbillyized.

Our local autoparts stores don't know what Millimeters and Metric are, and say "Yeh shuld bah a Daaadge Hemahhh insteaaahhd, eassaih ta waahk ohn, heaaah? Go draaahv yeh Muh-Staaang naah lahk a good boah, fohget dem Bee-Em-Dubyaahs"

Here's the deal with the socket. I found one, AutoServiceTools (AST) has them, they run $140, and they're BMW specific. Here it is.

Maybe I can sell it to some autoshop somewhere.

            Mother of god.

I thought mine was expensive at like $15-20 at Ace Hardware...

Oh people pay more than that for a good screw all the time.
If something's gonna get my nuts off, it's gotta be top quality man.

We don't have ACE around here. :(

Or walk into HomeDepot or Lowes hardware, most of them have a decent selection of Cobalt or SK hand tools. Both are lifetime and decent quality that yo don't need to resort to Kmart tools.
