I spent $7 on the Schucks 30mm socket special, and spent a good 20 minutes using my friend grinding wheel. Got it to fit, and it worked wonderfully! Better than spending $140?!?!!1111111one

I love noobs with shitty attitudes like this.

If you're going to come here asking for advice and suggestions, don't be a dick when you get them. If that's the way you're going to respond to people giving you nothing but helpful information, you can kindly fuck off.

        Whoah...take it easy.

My attitude isn't shitty, and I thank everyone for their help!
At the same time, it's still kinda humbling to have the same mistake pointed out again and again.

Yeah that was out of line Josh, not having a part can be frustrating that's all he was upset about.

Our local autoparts stores don't know what Millimeters and Metric are, and say "Yeh shuld bah a Daaadge Hemahhh insteaaahhd, eassaih ta waahk ohn, heaaah? Go draaahv yeh Muh-Staaang naah lahk a good boah, fohget dem Bee-Em-Dubyaahs"

Here's the deal with the socket. I found one, AutoServiceTools (AST) has them, they run $140, and they're BMW specific. Here it is.

Maybe I can sell it to some autoshop somewhere.

            shit, $140? even bavauto's isn't that expensive.

            I'll sell you mine for $100, you'll even save $40 :D

I had a tough time finding a cheap one to grind down as well and ended up buying the bav auto one since I had to place an order anyway. I think it was $25 which isn't that outrageous if you just want a tool and don't want to dick around.

It's also the prettiest socket I've ever owned and worked well on the impact wrench.

That wasn't the way it came across to me, but I'm over it. My bad.

I bought an entire impact metric deepwell set of Pittsburg brand sockets at Harbor Freight for $20 and just grinded the 30mm down with my dremel.

                  What is you zip code?

Nah I tend to agree with you Josh. After three or four good suggestion the MaBell network and the local yellow pages would have been my friend.

What's the big deal? I bought an expensive socket. Thanks everyone for your help, but who cares?

We don't have NAPA, we don't have Autozone, Advance Auto, PepBoys or any of those places within a 40 minute drive. I can't even find oilfilters for one of my cars on a regular basis because nobody stocks it, I have to order them from a european specialty shop. The closest BMW dealership is about an hour away and they're all mentally deficient vegetables with drool running down their chins on the best of days.

The bottom line is that I'm not going to drive an hour to get a socket when I can have one on my doorstep the next day.

I don't have all the knowledge that some of you people do which is why I asked the question. I don't have a shitty attitude. I've just got an engine and a rolling chassis taking up space in my garage, and I'd rather have a car there instead, and that particular item had been holding me up for a while.

I also believe in having the right tool for the right job. That's why I've got an engine hoist, and an engine stand in there right now. Do I need those things? Not really, I could probably hoist the engine up using one of the beams in the garage. But are they good to have? YES.

If I didn't want your help, then I wouldn't have asked, I appreciate it, but I don't always have the option of following everyone's advice.

If I had known that buying a socket would be such a problem for everyone, I probably wouldn't have mentioned it, and therefore, I'm sorry.
