    HELP re-installing CV shaft

Are ABS and Non-ABS axle the same? I am putting an ABS axle on a non abs car and I cant seem to get the new axle to slide in I have been straining myself for the past 2 hours trying to get this in and I have had no luck, I have resorted to trying to hammer it into the trailing arm but I will if I have to. BTW same number of spline and the length varies because the can contract and retract. Oh and smart me didnt get a new lock plate before I tore into it and I destroyed the that was on there.

The axles are not the same and on that early car may not be able to slide in all the way. The ABS axles have a ring around the outer edge for the pulse sensor and later trailing arms have a larger opening in the back side to allow for this.

The abs ring comes off and I removed it, but tonight when I was trying to hammer the new axle in I the bearing race just crumbled, and that is another main difference the non abs axle has a solid face on the innner end and the abs axle has an open bearing. I tried filing the splines down and even heating the splines in the trailing arms with no luck getting it in. I am stuck now and I hope someone locally has a non abs axle.

I've put ABS shaft to non abs trailing arm, had no difficulties.

That inner joint difference you mentioned, look closer, I believe that the inner joint "end cap" has just fallen off.

The axles are the same indeed. The job can be a pain in the ass but when you use a paintheater (do you call it that?) to heat the hub splines for a longer time it should be pretty easy. Don't force the shaft to much as it's easy to fuck one up.

Yes, somehow new axle just has not the end cap, you can pry out the cap from old one if you want to, but I don't think that it's nessesary.
