Reman GKN Lubro axles not fitting

I've read about people having to file down splines on aftermarket axles and it looks like I'll have to do the same. I've been hammering the axle in for hours and it's only about 3/4 of the way there. The threads are not exposed so I cannot pull it from the hub side. Any advice?

Got them in. I had to clean up the splines with a v file. Then they went in with a piece of wood and mini sledge hammer. Now I can finally finish the rear end.
