Removal of Vibration Dampener help needed.

I dropped my driveshaft this weekend while replacing the shift selection shaft seal (boy was that fun to get out). I was hoping to remove the vibration dampener that connects to the guibo but couldn't figure out how to get it off. It looks like there's 3 bolts holding it on but those wouldn't budge.

Also, the Bentley manual mentions rotating the dampener 60 degrees before removing the driveshaft, I got mine off without this step, but I'd like to know how it's possible to rotate the dampener when it's bolted on!

It's bolted onto the tranny output flange. You need to just unbolt it from that. Use some liquid wrench.

Mine's on the driveshaft. I think I found the answer in another thread, but if someone could confirm,... you need to pound the bolts out, then the dampener will rotate 60 degrees for removal.

PS: Ken,.. do you work for Rogue?

It should just come right off. Just take all 6 bolts out of the flex disc, and the dampener should just come off.

No, I don't work for Rogue. I just really like their beer... been to the brewery quite a few times.

The 3 bolts on mine are round on the back side, do you just knock them out with a hammer?

yup, came off my 2/86 325es

The vibration dampener may be new though, it doesn't match the diagram on realoem.com either.

I had a rebuilt driveshaft from the dealer put on a couple of years ago, it may be a new design that was installed at the same time.... :?

the bolts should just come out of the damper... good luck.

So, did you manage to remove the vibration dampener. I have the same style on my 87 325i and wondering if there any tricks to removing it.

The one on my 85 528 is just like that picture that was posted. Isnt it held on by the output shaft nut on the trans?

There are two types of vibration dampers. My 11/86 production 325is has the type with M10x54mm long hex-head bolts. You take off the nut forward of the transmission output flange, pull the bolt out toward the back of the car, and then turn the vibration damper 60 degrees to release the vibration damper from the output flange.

The one pictured has the knurled shoulder, round-head bolts pressed into the vibration damper and output flange. You have to remove the output flange to press out the bolts.

We ran across one of these during my friends clutch job. Added two hours to the cursing.
