hey guys, i hope you can help me. Will a UUC short shifter rod from a 1985 325e with the old shifter mount fit a 1989 325i with the newer shifter mount?
Not sure what your asking. All shift levers are interchangeable between all e30's and e36's, possibly other BMW's as well, if that helps.
If you have the flat sheet metal panel shifter console, do yourself a favor and swap it out for the later style aluminum rod design, and get all new bushings. Otherwise it's a waste.
Go for the Z3 1.9 shifter. Great feel and alot cheaper, new from BMW ~$50.
I would agree with JGood, the old aluminum shifters tend to get very sloppy over time.
Also, I posted about the Gearshift Rod Joint in a thread about the DSSR (perhaps this is the short shifter rod you are talking about) here:http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=79025 You should probably read it before attempting the swap.
thanks for the help i swapped in the UUC rod, that I got for free from a buddy of mine, in 2 days ago and Its great. The rod had the new sealed cartridge bearings on it that helped smooth out the shifts. I used my old shifter before from my e36 and I compared the throw and its the same.
So i guess that other than the shifter being a UUC evo3 shifter, Its the same as my e36 shifter but a little smoother.
If I was in any position to spend money on a SSK for the e30 the Z3 1.9 or e36 328is shifter will work
