    Hmmmmm...Auto Question

I think I already know the answer to this question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I'm noticing that lately, when my car is cold (and it's been around 15 F - 20 F here for a month), the transmission downshifts two gears. Like, when I'm in third and I start going up a hill, I toe into the gas, and instead of popping me into second, it shifts into first. Once it's warmed up, it downshifts normally.

The auto has 150,000 miles on it, and the tranny oil and screen were replaced last June. I know BMW autos are notorious for dying, so I'm wondering if I should start saving up for the manual conversion?

Does it slip? I know autos go when they start to slip when they change gears. And you say it works fine when warmed up, so that makes it harder to say. Maybe try changing the oil and filter again. Did you do a flush or just a drain and fill?

Drain it, filter change and maybe a recommended power flush. Many automatic rebuilders endorse the flush technic now with the BGK44 product.

my auto made it to 180k before I pulled it.. I beat the shit out of it too. I don't think they really die all that easily.

it *could* be the kick down cable being out of adjustment. I never messed with mine though so I don't really know.

No, it's never slipped. Maybe it's that kick-down cable. How would I check that?
