    Help identify the mystery noise...

    Firstly, my car is a 24v swap, but im using the getrag 260. Im using e36 flywheel/clutch/starter/etc. All of the parts are new, including the clutch slave.

    The noise occurs when the car is in neutral idling. If i push in the clutch pedal, the noise goes away. It sounds like a jar of marbles. Sometimes, when i let the clutch out slowly, its not very loud. Im at my wits end with this. I have replaced damn near everything. Any help would be AMAZING.

    I just noticed a very similar noise in my car, I have an m20b25 though. When in neutral with the clutch pedal out, there is a sound similar to marbles like you describe. However when I push in the clutch pedal the noise goes away. Sorry, I realize this doesn't help you, I'm just wondering what is causing this noise too.

            I think i know what the issue is. When i was ordering parts for my car, i ordered a pilot bearing for the s50, not the m20. That would make sense as far as when the noise occurs.

              While the noise could be from the throwout of pilot bearing, that would be unlikely with new parts. A more credible cause would be rattle of the transmission input shaft. Unless really bad that's not harmful.
              The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

                it's called the getrag rattle... even if you completely rebuilt the transmission, it's not gauranteed to go away. lightweight flywheels make it worse.

                  Yeah, though the pilot bearing for the s50 measures 15x32x10mm and the
                  the m20 pilot bearing measures: 12x32x10mm, meaning my input shaft is just flopping around in there like a donkey dick. If its fixed by this hooray, if not at least the bearing is correct, though i am extremely confident that this is the source of the noise.

                    Input shaft bearing on the 260 is the most likely culprit. The pilot bearing is worth a try if you're willing to take the trans out though.

                        its dirt. I have the same thing took it all apart made sure every surface around the throwout bearing was clean and it dissappeared
