    5sp conversion self-paced start

Well... I recently acquired gtrg260 from '87is, driveshaft, all shifting mechanism, 2 flywheels, 2 bad clutches. Total cost: $130 so far.
    need to get:
    -rear main seal
    -master/slave cylinders
    -m/s line
    -brake fluid reservoir
    -input/output, shifter knuckle seals
    -clutch kit
-pedal clutch/brake (airbagged cars, what's here??)
-shifter holder rear bearing (the one which mounts to the underbody)

what else is there to get?

If I would drain all the tranny fluid and fill it up with redline, will that shorten its life? The fluid was never changed before. I'm asking this because The fluid has time-built-up sludge that kinda keeps all the clerances within tolerable limits, if I would flush it, the gaps will be bigger? Is there some high-milage redline stuff that would make it better instead of worse?

    will post pics laterz!

This is going to be at my own pace, I will definately finish this, just gonna do it at my own pace, will update with pics.

my tranny had over 220k with automatic tranny fluid in it before I swapped it in.. I drained it and put in Redline MTL. now it has ~240k on it and it's still smooth. :p

I wouldn't worry about changing the fluid, unless you plan on leaving all the old seals in there..

        ok, pics will come shortly.
        so far, I have:
-tranny w/shifter linkage/mounts (shifter kit on the way)
        -driveshaft (+csb+guibo)
        -pedals from airbagged car
-master/slave cyl. 1 line from master to slave
        -pilot bearing
        -clutch
        -resurfaced flywheel
        -break fld. reserv.
        -all seals

        is there anything I'm missing?
are pedal boxes identical in auto/manual 90+ cars?

Any of you shaved a single mass flywheel? did you have any problems with your stock sachs clutch? how much did it cost you to shave it?
Thanks for the input guys, I hope this is going to be a good write-up to make up for melvin's pics... and bmwe30.net not workingness....

          from 87 is
after reading bentely, '88+ came with dual mass flywhls, and pre88 came with single mass... sooo when I order the clutch I should get one for 87is? Also, read my previous post about shaving single mass flywheel.

just a little FYI... I think that "auto" brake fluid res. can be used, just cut open the little penis on the side so that it would have the little lip around and slap the hose on that biach. correct me if I'm wrong.

                yes that's what I did.

and the delrin shifter carrier bushing is def. worth it. I have the UUC one but they're all the same.

also, my 88 ix had a single mass, but it was built in 87.. dunno when exactly they changed it over.

I know for fact, the 6cyl e36 got dual mass, the e30... I nailed down 325i's had only single mass, don't know about other ones, because in bentley it says that single were on first e30 and later ones received dual mass... which contradicts to many websites that have single mass clutches for i's and dual mass for e's

Well, I just ordered Z4 2.5 shifter and bunch of little clipsnshit, first of all... since by getrg260 came from '87 is, the SHIFTER ROD JOINT is different from what i ORDERED!!! apparently, they changed design in '89 and what I got is a narrower one, so now, I have to get the right one... just a heads up to everybody out there!
                      Some questions:
before I will change any seals on the tranny, I wanna wash/clean it.
-What is the best way to do that in home setting?? (have a backyard/garage) and what to use as a cleaner?

-I think I won't be able to use the harmonic balancer, since it's off the driveshaft and it was balanced with it... it will wobble, cause I don't know the right position. To make up for the extra space on the bolts, would it worth getting an M5 guibo?

-one guy suggested that I would look into the filler hole on the tranny with a flashlight and that way I can see how good the internals are... is that a good method to see if I need to flush it or not?

From what I understand, the "Don't change old tranny fluid because you will blow your tranny" is a myth.

I just realized I could have given you the pedal assembly off of my parts car. Ah well.

Oh, and let me know when you're doing this so I can help you out. I want to know how to do this for when I need to replace my clutch.
