    5-speed swap question

I'm new to this sight, but have noticed a lot of discussion about the 5-speed swap. Also notice a lot of helpful posters with patience and great knowledge. So here's the deal: My 325iC is in dire need of a 5-speed, so it won't be such a slug. My trusted mechanic here in Memphis has never done a swap like this, but is willing to take it on. I will be looking at a donor car next week to buy for all the parts, and the swap seems fairly straight forward, except maybe the insatallation of the toggle switch to get the cruise control working. At this point, I only have one question for the forum. Does switching from the auto to manual tranny have an effect on any of the following:

    OBC
    speedo
    tach
    odo
    instant mileage
    service lights
    any other aux function?

I ask this question because my car is low mileage and everything (except central locking) works. Before I actually pull the trigger on the swap, it would be good to know if I'll lose anything in the process.

    Thanks, Cory

An auto to 5-speed swap will have no affect on any of the items mentioned. Other than dealing with the pedal box to add a clutch pedal and getting the neutral safety switch right (so the car will start and cruise control works) it is not any harder than doing a clutch job.

As an FYI, if you add a clutch switch (the wiring is already there) and short the auto selector wires cruise and starting will work properly.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks jlevie. As long as my car and the donor car both have air bags, I thought the whole pedal assembly would just bolt in. Is that not correct?

Thanks also for the tidbit on the clutch switch. I didn't know there was an option to avoid the toggle switch, so I may be asking some more questions about the wiring when the time comes.
