light banging? knocking from tranny or clutch

something is going wrong with my eta, somethings banging in my tranny but only in first and second gears and the rest sound fine, but when car is just idling on the spot, the banging/ knocking niose is still present but not as bad as when im driving in first and second. also if i push in the clutch the noise stops. i dont know if im going to need a new tranny or if its the clutch master or pilot bearing or release bearing. anyone have any idea?

i just ended up getting a different tranny when i did the m20i swap in the summer...

the pressure plate was fine so that wasnt the case. with the tranny off, i spun the shaft by hand (in neutral, 1,2 and 3) and could feel the knock, and did not spin as easy as my newer tranny. there were no leaks

it felt the same as turning a bad wheel bearing. im no expert on rebuilding trannys but for MY tranny's situation im guessing it would be #12 listed in this realoem pic.
