I have the worlds sloppist shifter... what should I do?

1st I think I'm going to change out the shifter along with the bushings... I'm pretty new to e30's so I'm not really even sure where I should go about doing any of this...

i'm thinking of going with a Z3 2.8 shifter but for bushings I'm not sure what bushings to get.

currently 2nd gear feels like it doesn't really wanna go in or stay in and most of the gears the shifter has like 3-4 inches of play side to side.

In all honesty and sales pitch aside, that eBay shifter looks like garbage. The only bushing you see is something that comes already with a factory shifter. Also, if your other bushings are bad on the other end of the selector rod, that shifter will do little good.

Ehh, theres usually a few culprits that cause a sloppy shifter, and the shifter and cup bushing arent typically it.

                http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...74&hg=25&fg=05

                Go for a # 11, 13, 14, 15, 19, and maybe 18 I forget.

Get #2 in Delrin from the aftermarket supplier of your choice and let me know how your shifter feels.

If you do put in a Z4 or Z3 shifter, might as well throw in a #6 while your in there.

I have the Z3M in my car. I broke it already though.

Remove the clip 17 and slide the shift linkage out. Then you slide the clip 18, off of the machined part of 13, then drive the pin 17 out. Once you get there it is fairly easy to see what you need to do.

The hassle is getting to these parts. If I didn't have a seal leak from my transmission I wouldn't have ever bothered but once I did replace 13 it made my shifter a whole lot tighter.

Worth noting that 11 isn't the bushing in the base of the shifter, thats a permanent part of the shifter assembly. They are actually little washers which are real good at disappearing forever. If you buy new ones, there's a good chance you won't remember removing something like that.

Yep, 13 is the culprit in most cases i'd venture. I was in there for the same reason, seal leaking all over. Lucky me some tard siliconed the old seal in. I go to remove it and install the new one and the new one just drops right in with little resistance. :curse: Damn thing leaks to this day, and for the forseeable future.
