    my .02 on a 5 speed swap

alright well just finished doing the swap and thought some people want some feedback from this kind of swap. make sure everythings in proper running order before doing this swap.

difficulty was pretty straight forward, probally most difficult part was getting the trans out and back it

my car was an airbag car...swap the pedals not the box (i know its like beating a dead horse)

make sure if you get the trans and driveshaft from two different people that the output flange in the right size!!! Don't over look that....It took me like a week just for the right size flange, I would have done this in 3 days except for that setback

When you install the pedals MAKE SURE WIRES ARN't PINCHED!!! ask me what happens if you'd like.

I used all new parts; hydralics and clutch+PP used trans and driveshaft and LSD (if you can afford it do it this way) who wants to do this again in 6 months?

after all has been said and done, I love the feeling of making a car how I want it. Its much more fun as a 5 speed! I dropped around 1000$ even with getting parts at cost (worldpac).

after doing the swap shit just went down hill...my water pump broke a week later (did timing belt while I was in there), and now just this friday my electrical system took a shit! (pinched wire on clutch pedal)

        do you understand your question?

if you want a single-mass, order a single mass clutch

I understand my question, when they built the trans that were built with dual mass in mind did any internals of the trans change?

I've heard if you get a dual mass trans and mate it to a single mass it sounds like a can of bolts at idle

The internals of all Getrag 260's are the same. The variants in those transmissions are for bell housing mounted timing reference sensors and shifter mounts.

The rattle at idle when in neutral is from the transmission input shaft. A little of bit of wear there coupled with a lighter flywheel (dual mass > single mass > lightweight) causes a rattle.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

To fix the rattle, coat the input shaft with a good gasket sealer I use the copper packed orange high temp silicone and this eliminates any room for play. Be sure to let the silicone dry before starting the car or the sound will still be there.

thanks for that info....I don't want to pull the trans, but when I do I'll be sure to do that.

doesn't the pilot bearing make it so the input shaft doesn't have any play? I put in a brand new pilot bearing so theres no play there.
