5 speed swap question. Please help !!

My friend wants to put a 5 speed in his 87 325e

He was going to use the complete 5 speed trans etc. from my 87 325is, but we noticed the crank sensors are not the same.

I think his 'e' car has crank sensors on the housing of the transmission.
The 'is' has a crank sensor on the front of the motor.

He is going to look tonight to make sure his crank sensors are on his transmission, but I am sure he will find they are there.

    So my question is:

Can he use the transmission from the 'i' car ? or Will he have to find a 5 speed trans from a 325e ??

    Help would be very appretiated!!

    Thanks !!

Thanks for the help!! Not a big deal.

Now I want to find out if the other parts of the swap can be used, so all I have to do is find a transmission......

      Anyone know about this?

Check your transmission. Some used on early production 325is cars had plugs where the bellhousing mounted sensor go.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
