Halfshafts... have you ever replaced them?

I have had 5 e30s and the most recent on is the only one I have seen with damaged boots on the outer CV joint of the rear half shafts.

    Have you ever replaced yours?

i found out recently from eli that new ones can be had at O'reillys for 60$ plus core of coarse.
That beats the shit out of having to replace the boots

I would rather run a used halfshaft, than a cheap new one.
I bought a cheapy one for my M3 one time simply because it's hard to resist a brand new halfshaft for under $100. When it arrived, the CV joints were already binding up and did not have free rotation. I took it apart and saw that it had almost no grease in it. I rebuilt it, and packed it will a lot of new grease. After a few weeks of rolling the car in and out of the shop (the car didn't run yet), it completely came apart. I ended up just buying a used one from a member of this forum.

Also, the bearings in the aftermarket CV joints were smaller than stock.
So, if anyone wants a shitty aftermarket zero mile halfshaft, I might still have mine.

I want to slide a refreshed subframe in, with the 3.73 and maybe five lugs... Maybe I will just find some nice used ones.

They are easy as long as your wheel bearings aren't toast.

It's one of those "ounce of prevention vs pound of cure" things.

O they are a million times easier than the bearing which i just replaced, but i fubar'ed the parking brake on the passenger's side and it is afro-engineered right now...
