    HELP! Removing Driveshaft Vibration Damper

So, not knowing this, caused alot of headaches.

Short summary, I bought the car already slightly modified. Specifically, a short shifter already installed.

Fast forward. I needed my driveshaft rebuilt. I sent mine out, received one back with this huge ring (the vibration damper).

After getting everything installed, and take it for a drive, i'm getting some rubbing in 2nd and 4th gear.

I do alot of searching and come to find out this is common and either need to remove the damper or bend the selector rod.

I am choosing to remove the damper.

My question is, after i press out the studs that mount the damper to the d/s, do i just replace it with the same nuts/bolts that are used to mount the Guibo to the output flange? M10 x 50 Grade 10.9?

Some say to reuse these studs, and others just use nuts and bolts. Nuts and bolt sound better to me.

    Thanks for the help/tips.

I have dealt with this scenario once before - it will be a lot easier to bend the selector rod vs. removing the harmonic balancer on the driveshaft. I am in a bit of a rush so I cannot go into detail here, but refer to UUCs website and their Evo3 kit with install instructions which should be linked at their site. It will walk you through on how to properly bend the selector rod using a vice. It's quite easy and straight-forward and much less work for you than the alternative.

    Good luck.

      Thanks Jon.

The main reason i was avoiding that was because for one, i don't know what short shifter is in the car and two, the best thread with pics is no longer working.

I'll go ahead and try that out. I suppose some extra dampening couldn't hurt.

        Thanks, btw, Jon

Followed those instructions w/the sockets. Worked out perfectly.

I'm glad I saw this thread as I am about to do a short shift kit install!

          Thanks!

How about just buying a bent rod? Which E36 car had the bent selector rod? Which one would fit an 87 325is?
