    E30 w/Steptronic Trans

Who has any knowledge of the Steptroinc (Schleptronic?!) trans supplied in E30's? Have an 88 Super Eta with a bad one and need advice on whether to keep it--never even knew of this before.

it's possible your car has the 4HP22-eh, which is an electronically controlled transmission, but I've only seen those in grey market / euro cars, and never in an eta.

I have the Vehicle History printout for the car which says "Code 0205--Steptronic Trans." I'm going to go out and get numbers oof the trans later today...

Riddle solved. My friend Ben Thongsai said it's not actually a Steptronic, that they just reused codes and options on the list. Here I thought I had some rare, exotic auto trans and it's just another slushbox. :(

well, even if it were the electronic "sport" option, the 4hp22eh is the same basic transmission anyway - same gear ratios, internals, etc. Not terribly desireable either way.

Does it shift quicker or something?

There is an "s" mode on the shift console. It will, at least in my friends iX and one eta that I've seen with it, shift at redline at WOT, lock out overdrive, shift at higher RPM, and downshift earlier. Its just a sport mode.

you can do the same thing with the regular auto by putting it in 1, 2 or 3 though.

Don't feel bad; steptronic = just another slushbox.
