    Sealing differential cover

My differential is leaking quite a bit from the cover seal. It is no doubt due to the synthetic redline fluid. Would it be ok to re-seal the cover with RTV silicone instead of the craptastic paper gasket?

Anyone else done the same thing?

The paper gasket works fine, if in good condition. But when replacing it, a smear of sealant on each surface never hurts.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Doing that may cause the gasket to squeeze out. Use sealant OR gasket, not both.

Edit: if you are going to use a gasket and anything else use some gasket glue/weatherstrip adhesive.

the synthetic isn't your problem, the problem is the seal is dead.

I'm amazed that my 211k rear diff doesn't leak a drop, I've had redline synthetic in it for 30,000 miles too.
