ZF5hp swap

Firstly I’ve been out of the e30 world for a while, the last time I was in the scene E30tech was the biggest forum around and secondly I’ve tried searching the forum for the answer to my question but couldn’t find anything related.

I’m currently swapping an m52 from an e39 into a convertible and want to swap the ZF 5 speed auto that came with it too.

Does anyone have any guidance on this, everyone goes manual so there’s tons of info on that but not so much for the auto. Things such as which shifters work best, setting up the Steptronic, possible plug and play driveshaft options etc.

any helpful advice/links to useful sites would be appreciated.

The ZF 4HP-22 is 685 mm long.
The automatic driveshaft is 1327 mm long.

Apparently, the 5HP-19 is longer and needs a shorter driveshaft.
You may try to connect the front section of the E46 automatic driveshaft that came with the 5HP-19 to the rear of the E30 driveshaft.
The part number is 26111229564.
It's just my speculation.

I guess the shifters and electronics should be transferred from the donor.
