well this is going back just a little.. but when i replaced my csb i couldnt get my exhaust off cuz i couldnt crack the rusted bolts off the headers so i lowered my diff and slid the shaft out from that rear subframe.... if that helps with anyone, it's what i did and it was pretty easy
oh and as of before taking the two halfs of the driveshaft apart.. mark it with white-out or something! it'll save u a big headache about worying if u put the two halfs together and they arent lined up properly.Leave a comment:

Does anyone know if the back half of an autotragic DS is the same as a 5 spd rear section DS?Leave a comment:

i am having literally the same exact problem.
i plan on pulling everything off of a parts car that i know of.
how do i check if everything on the parts car is good?
and can i get pictures or some sort of diagram on exactly what i need to replace? that would be amazing.Leave a comment:

I'm thinking the u-joints/center bearing may be the cause of my noise whenever I release or depress the clutch. It's a definite clunk and slight jerkiness also--like slight freeplay from the shaft. (Insert dirty joke here).
Sound like a good diagnosis? Hoping it's not subframe bushings...Leave a comment:

I c...That sucks. Sounds like a gov't job at work then. I'll bribe one of the machinists with cupcakes to do it for me. I am just a feeble maint. mechanic. Basic machining I can do....if its really involved...thats what they are there for. Shit...I just recently wired up a hot tub for the one dude...he owes me a favor.Leave a comment:

They are pressed in and staked, to replace the U joints takes some machine work.Leave a comment:

Is that right......well......what may this task involve? It's not like the typical pop the old ones out and reinstall new ones...just make sure everything goes back as it was? I havent really looked at them that close.Leave a comment:

The u-joints aren't usually something you can just replace on these driveshafts.Leave a comment:

Yes, don't leave the heat-shields off. One bad effect from this is warming up the fuel tank and it will also bake the drive shaft especially after parking the car hot.Leave a comment:

The shifter is rather sloppy. Sounds like a plan. Think I'm just gonna go ahead and replace the u-joints, csb, and the guibo. Prolly get the stuff for the shifter too then. Yeah I just put an exhaust system on there and tucked in tight to the heat shields. YIPPEEE!!!!! It shouldn't be that bad. Thanks for all the input everyone.Leave a comment:

Taking the heat shields isn't the big deal, I would also put them back on to protect the driveshaft from the elements etc...
It's the exhaust you'll have to drop to get to the driveshaft etc. Now would be a perfect time to order new shifter components to get them replaced at the same time, you'll have a nice and firm shifter. If it's all original, it's probably worn the hell out.Leave a comment:
