Very true, I only use OEM New shafts at the shop because I've never had good luck with rebuilt ones.

Is that right......well......what may this task involve? It's not like the typical pop the old ones out and reinstall new ones...just make sure everything goes back as it was? I havent really looked at them that close.

They are pressed in and staked, to replace the U joints takes some machine work.

I c...That sucks. Sounds like a gov't job at work then. I'll bribe one of the machinists with cupcakes to do it for me. I am just a feeble maint. mechanic. Basic machining I can do....if its really involved...thats what they are there for. Shit...I just recently wired up a hot tub for the one dude...he owes me a favor.

I'm thinking the u-joints/center bearing may be the cause of my noise whenever I release or depress the clutch. It's a definite clunk and slight jerkiness also--like slight freeplay from the shaft. (Insert dirty joke here).

Sound like a good diagnosis? Hoping it's not subframe bushings...

i am having literally the same exact problem.
i plan on pulling everything off of a parts car that i know of.
how do i check if everything on the parts car is good?
and can i get pictures or some sort of diagram on exactly what i need to replace? that would be amazing.

Does anyone know if the back half of an autotragic DS is the same as a 5 spd rear section DS?

well this is going back just a little.. but when i replaced my csb i couldnt get my exhaust off cuz i couldnt crack the rusted bolts off the headers so i lowered my diff and slid the shaft out from that rear subframe.... if that helps with anyone, it's what i did and it was pretty easy

oh and as of before taking the two halfs of the driveshaft apart.. mark it with white-out or something! it'll save u a big headache about worying if u put the two halfs together and they arent lined up properly.
