    M62 Swap EWS wiring trouble

So I'm cursing along with the swap and now I'm faced with the trouble of the EWS system. I've been told by a couple people that actually converting to an EWS system in my E30 is better than running an EWS delete software. Is this at all true? Has anyone tried both ways? So, if the delete software isn't the way to go, which components would then be transferred to the E30? I have a 540i produced in 06/97 so I have read that it is an EWS III system. I have located the ring antenna and the EWS module, but I'm not sure how to move forward. What else needs to come out? And where does it all plug in to on the DME?

Any advice you guys have on the matter would be awesome!

Study wiring-schematics so you'll know which wire goes where, they can be readily found on internet.

For EWS you need ECU, ring, key-chip and EWS-control module from the same car.

if you don't already have the matched EWSIII module to go with your DME, your only realy choice is delete software. Usually you can get that with a new tune so it's not so bad. otherwise you're looking at hundreds of dollars for a blank EWS module, reprogramming, matching keys, etc. And I don't even know if a dealer will do it since it's not in the original car anymore.

personally if it were me, and I had all the EWS components (at least the EWSIII module, the rest is easy), I'd use it.

Awesome. I got all of that out of the donor car so not i just have to try to chase the wires through the dashboard. Thanks for the help!

there's a guy who did an M52 swap into a 325ix, he installed the EWS chip inside the E30 key. the wiring is a bit different but it might give you ideas.

Does anyone know where all of the wires end up or does anyone have a very good diagram? I have searched all over and I cannot find something that says where each color wire goes. I have the bundle of wires with all the components out of the e39 but I'm still unsure as to which wire goes where. For example, there is a couple wires from the EWS module that go to plugs which connect to the ECU. Is it okay for me to remove the seemingly unnecessary wire from those plugs to the ECU or should I be keeping those because I need them to wire other things? Also, is there a good diagram for the plugs plugs themselves to figure out this information?

            Thanks for all the help!

cant really find the wiring diagram for the e39 m62 because no one really loaded a volume 2 of the Bentley yet for the e39 but if you like to check for continuity through the wires, maybe this will help http://www.e38.org/m62tu.pdf

Thanks for everything! I just dug a little deeper in volume two of the Bentley. It isn't written very well. Everything is so damn hard to find. The only thing I'm still not sure of is where to wire it up to my manual transmission. The diagrams only mention wiring for automatics.

That's because it doesn't go to that manual trans. You'll need to program the ecu if it came out of an auto.

I have found everything except the wire that sis supposed to go to my transmission. As I have a manual, I have been told that wire isn't used. Does anyone know if this is true? Also, does anyone know where the wires for my starter solenoid end up? One side goes to EWS, the other is a mystery. Any clue?
