    Timing rail question...

In a very lame act of inattention, I snapped the plastic cover off of the left(passenger side), inner, lower timing rail. I notice that these do not show up on RealOEM, only driver's side. Engine is an Alusil m60b40.

    1. Is it the same part number as the opposite (IIRC #20) side?

    2. If not, what is the part number?

    3. Best place to order from?

    Thanks.

Which part in this diagram are you referring to?

If #14, you'll see in the list that they have separate listings for Cyl 1-4, then cyl 5-8. If one of them broke, I'd replace them all, as they probably aren't far behind.

I like to order from www.blunttech.com

Thank you for the replies, they were perfect. I actually looked on Tischers site and part #14 referred above was part #20 there. And yes, that's the one.

I somehow snagged it with the hoist chain when moving it (the timing cover was off) and it snapped the plastic tab that holds it on. The others appear good, although who knows.

I am trying to figure out how deep down the rabbit hole I should go. The engine was replaced at 60k and was pulled with 120k on it. I heard that BMW only replaced the short blocks, so I assume they didn't replace the timing rails and used the old ones.

So, I guess this begs the question(s):
        1. Replace all guides (I can post pics tonight)?

        2. Do I do valley pan while in there?

        3. Knock sensors?

Budget is a bit of a concern, as I can easily rack up well over $1k in gaskets, guides, and replaceables when some of that could be earmarked for other bits. I just don't want to throw good money after stuff that isn't a common failure item at this age.

        Thanks.
